Neighborhood Schoolhouse

On June 1, 2016,  after claiming to have received advice from the “school’s consulting pediatrician,” the principal and board of the Neighborhood Schoolhouse (Brattleboro, Vermont) met to discuss a proposed policy of mandatory vaccinations for teachers.

Meeting Agenda:

The first (and only) draft of the policy distributed to the public prior to the meeting called for mandatory annual flu shots and a DPT shot and made no provision for exemptions.

After concerned citizens voiced their concerns, the board went into executive session and came out with a different policy, one described as a “compromise” which was then voted in by the board. The policy now reads that the school, “recommends that all staff be fully immunized according to the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) in order to minimize the risk of spreading communicable diseases among students.”
